Get ready for your ceremony

  • Register your guests Registration is required for all non-student attendees. Each student may only invite four guests.
  • Review the schedule and check Workday for your scheduled ceremony date, time, and procession number
  • Rent your gown to receive your regalia after check-in.
    • Missed the rental deadline? Arrive 90 minutes early and bring a valid form of payment to cover the rental cost. The cost to rent your regalia is $105 on site (cash, debit or credit).

Day of details

Check-in, regalia and procession – ADM

  • Check the schedule and arrive at the Administration Building 90 minutes before your ceremony.
  • Bring your UBC card or government-issued ID and know your procession number.
  • Pick up your academic regalia.
  • You will receive your degree folder and a reader card with your name.
  • Line up in your assigned procession spot based on your number. Stay in your designated position.
  • Marshals will guide you to the Gymnasium and your assigned seat, which you’ll use for the entire ceremony.

Crossing the stage – GYM

  • When it’s your turn, follow the marshal’s directions to the stage.
  • Hand your name card to the reader.
  • As your name is read, pause briefly at the podium and face the audience for a photo.
  • Continue across the stage and pause for a photo with the President.
  • A marshal will guide you back to your seat.

After your ceremony

  • Graduates remain in their seats until a marshal directs the formation of a procession to leave the building
  • Meet your friends and guests in the central courtyard.
  • Join the alumni UBC welcome reception
  • Return your gown at the designated tent in the central courtyard.
  • Receive your photos by email 2–3 weeks after your ceremony.
  • View and download your stage-crossing video one week after your ceremony at ubco.stageclip.com.
