Spring Convocation Honorary Degree Recipients

 

Dr. William Carpentier

An alumnus of the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Dr. William Carpentier was flight surgeon for NASA’s Apollo 11 crew and is renowned for his contributions to the field of space life science. When the Apollo program ended in 1972, he pursued a second career in the emerging field of nuclear medicine, leading and contributing to important advancements in radiology, diagnostics and cancer treatment.

 

Lewis Kay, O.C.

Lewis Kay is a biophysicist known for his pioneering research in biochemistry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy which is used for studies of the structure and behaviour of molecules. He is a professor of Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Toronto and a senior scientist in the Molecular Medicine research program at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.

 

Beckie Scott, O.C.

Beckie Scott was a 11-year member of Canada’s national cross-country ski team, retiring in 2006 as Canada’s most decorated cross-country skiing athlete. A three-time Olympian and gold medalist at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, she is also widely recognized for advocacy for drug-free sport and currently serves as Chair of the World Anti-Doping Agency Athlete Committee.
